Consumption

A playable theatre game about celebrity, isolation, and complicated relationships, designed for five players and two facilitators.

Overview

This game takes place in a hyper-consumerist dark mirror of our world in 2039. Players will take on the role of archetypical "influencer" personalities in the categories of: fashion, fitness, parenting, spiritual, and technology. Facilitators run and manage the game: providing the game-space and properties, onboarding and workshopping characters, managing game runtime, portraying two NPC characters, and providing after-game debrief. All characters are designed to be any gender the player would like to portray.

The game takes place over ~4 hours in total: 90 minutes of onboarding and workshop, 2 hours of gameplay, and 30 minutes of debrief.

Dinner is an essential part of this experience and food needs and preferences must be collected. Eating and (where possible, sharing) food is critical to the full enjoyment of the experience.

Consumption asks the question: "How much of yourself would you give to change the world?" The tone of the experience is similar to media such as Black Mirror or Electric Dreams.

Content Warnings: ethical and moral issues surrounding consumerism, body horror, psychological horror, objectification, isolation and loneliness, extortion.
